In Costa Rica, the concept of waste water treatment is mostly misunderstood. We have worked in many places and have found this to be a fact.
There are three types of water in your house. There is ‘black’ water from your toilets, ‘gray’ water from your showers, tubs, and laundry, and ‘almost black’ water from your sinks.
A Canadian study discovered that flushing the toilets amounted to 33% of the water used in the household...that’s a lot of wasted water! So how about just saving some of the gray water?
The problems comes when we want to store some of this gray water. After 18 hrs or so the gray water starts to emit odors so it needs to treated, usually with chlorine. Another system automatically flushes the storage tank after the water has been stored for set time.
A very significant issue here in Costa Rica is the management of maintenance, so any system needs to be simple to operate.
If you are going to be here in the dry season, wasted water is an especially important issue and you should consider grey water recycling options.
We can offer professional services designing a system that would suit your needs.
